Rise and Shine --- Cold hard schooling facts

Good Morning and, yes, it really is 2012 no matter what you wrote on that last check!!

By the way, does anybody really write checks any more? I mean, you can pay all your bills online. You can transfer money through the bank website. Are checks going the way of regular mail?

Speaking of going away, how about all those Catholic school closings? Pretty amazing, huh.
A neighbor who's school is staying open said Friday, "You know, we are safe, but it's getting about time to pull the plug. They are only going to raise tuition. I think they are pricing people out of Catholic education."
Now, I went to Catholic school for the first eight years. Back then (yeah, ancient history), going to the Church's school was free (as long as your parents kept up with the all-important weekly envelope).
Now, some schools cost parishioners like $6,000 a year and that's only if they still keep the Sunday envelope coming. High schools cost nearly $12,000 a year.
Sorry, I know it's tradition and stuff, but people just can't afford that kind of bill.
My old school has been consolidated twice. This time, it's leaving the building. Now, while I cherish the time there it has more to do with the friends I made and less to do with the lessons I learned.

Rise and Shine --- Close your eyes and pray

Good Morning and welcome back to the day before the snow returns!

So, the Catholic Church is again getting a bit of bad publicity. More priests have been accused of child molestation and endangerment.
What doesn't seem to compute over here is, how can this keep happening? For years, the church swept this under the rug. For years, those in Rome denied anything wrong was happening. For years, they just moved these 'people' around from church to church, enabling them to hurt more and more people.
Then, every time somebody actually stands up, they act shocked. They act like they never knew. They act like this is an isolated incident.
Well, after years and years of just looking the other way, it's about time those who turned a blind eye should be prosecuted. They should be put in prison like anybody else. They should feel some pain.
It's about time to put the hammer down.

Rise and Shine --- To pray or not to pray

Good Morning and welcome to a new day!

First of all, let's get this out in the open. I grew up Roman Catholic. I went to Catholic school through eighth grade. I was an alter boy. I went to church every Sunday until I reached college (the reason for that is another story).
I believed what was taught. I believed in the laws the Vatican handed down. I believed priests, nuns, bishops, etc. were somehow closer to God. They were touched by the divine.
It isn't until you take the time to really look at what was going on when you can make an informed decision. The past couple of weeks the Vatican in general and the Pope in particular has come under fire for not taking a (correct) stand when it came to priests abusing children.
Those who took advantage of children should have been put out in front, prosecuted like any other person and sent away.
Instead, the Church took those offenders and moved them around from parish to parish, somehow thinking it would all change with every move.
Lawsuit after lawsuit later, it became apparent the moves did nothing more than change where the abuse was happening.
Now, much too late, the Vatican is saying these priests should be prosecuted, should be sent away. Well, talk about too little too late.
Unless the Vatican is ready to take a hardline stand for what's right, they are giving nothing else but lip service. As long as these people are protected, they will continue to abuse.
It's time for somebody to come in and make a clean sweep of everything. Until then, the Church is like any other business that gives 'corporate answers' to every question.
Then, and only then, can the rest of the problems be addressed.
