Good Morning and welcome to another steamer!
Sometimes you feel like frozen shrimp, sometimes you feel like steamed ones. For those complaining about the weather, well, complain somewhere else.
I was looking at the calendar and saw we are almost into July and I haven't been to the beach, swimming in a pool or seen any kind of fireworks.
Better get started this weekend.

Rise and Shine --- Swimming
Good Morning and welcome to (supposedly) a break from the heat!
The plan at the beginning of every summer is to join a pool and take advantage of it when it gets really hot. The plan falls apart every summer when I remember how much it costs to join a pool.
So, we take advantage of Grandmom and Grandpop's hospitality and jump. As the summer sun continued to bear down last week, their pool was a welcome respite.
When the heat was there again Saturday morning, I thought it was a good idea to stay in the air conditioning. So, we hit a couple of stores and saw a small, throwaway pool for $3.
OK, I thought, it would be perfect for those days when I didn't feel like driving. Saturday being one of those days, we got the pool home and filled it up.
So, with bathing suits on, one foot went into the water when the unbelievable came.
"It's too cold!!!"
Too cold, I said, it's like 150 degrees out here today. Walk around the house once, then you'll be ready to go in.
"That's not going to work. The water is too cold. It needs to be heated!!!"
OK, I continued, we'll stay outside until you're ready to get wet.
Lasted about 10 minutes. Now, I want it too stay hot for a few weeks.

Rise and Shine --- End of Days?
Good Morning and here we are again!
Now that we are winding down the school year (and doesn't it go faster every year?), it's time to really think about the summer.
Every year at this time, I try not to look too far ahead. I don't want to think about what's going to happen in a couple of weeks (trip to Disney) or what might happen in July (swimming) or even August (maybe another trip). I want everything to slow down for the summer.
I want to enjoy the nice, hot days. The playing the backyard. The catches. The drives to Grandmom's pool. The cooking on the grill. The lighting of the Tiki torches. The spraying of water guns.
While many may be bemoaning the end of the school year, I revel in it. I want the voices around me. Sure, it's going to be frustrating at times (No, you can't have any more cookies!).
The summer, though, is my time. It's time enjoy these little things.
OK, by the end, I'll be looking forward to the start of school once again, but that's down the line. I want to feel and remember every minute of this summer.

Rise and Shine --- It happens every summer
Good Morning and welcome to the second day of Summer!
So, with the heat bearing down yesterday afternoon and not wanting the little ones to sit around watching TV all day, I pulled out the pool.
Earlier this year, when the spring heat hit, we noticed the 'old' pool had a hole in the bottom. Sure, it could probably be fixed, but it would eventually leak, so we went out and picked up a new one.
This time, instead of sitting for an hour blowing the thing up, we went with one of those solid pools.
So, anyway, I asked if anybody wanted to go outside.
'It's too hot,' came the quick response.
How about if I fill up the pool.
'OK'
So, the grass killer was set up on the lawn and the hose was started.
A few minutes later (although it seemed like two hours to those waiting to get in), it was filled enough to cool off.
For about 15 minutes, it was splash, dunk, play. Then, came the question: 'Can we go back inside?'
No, it's a nice day out and you have a pool. Have some fun!
'Ah, we'll just play here.'
It was hot, but at least there was some fresh air.
Maybe today, they'll last 20 minutes.

Rise and Shine --- A holiday weekend
Good Morning and welcome to Memorial Day!
Memorial Day was always one of the best holidays as a child, because it meant a day off a couple of weeks before school was done for the summer. It was like an extra taste of vacation. After Memorial Day, school was like a blur. Most of the teachers were ready to get out, all the students were ready to get out and there wasn't much work getting done.
I know it's the same seeing the same time of year through other young eyes.
Of course, with the extra-long weekend and the heat, that meant it was time for some water sports. So, a newly-minted 7-year old enlisted his 4-year old sister to scout the garage for the pool.
It was pulled out early Sunday morning and sat on the driveway. After putting it off as long as possible, I spent the next couple of hours (or four inning of the Phillies/Yankees game) blowing the thing up with a bike pump.
So, by mid-afternoon the pool was blown up and water was slowing flowing in. A little while later (it seemed like 10 minutes to me, but about 10 hours to the 7- and 4-year old), the pool was ready to go.
Bathing suits were on, boats were at the ready, beach balls were round and bouncy.
So, the mad dash to the pool began and ended with a splash.
Then....
Silence.
Then...
AHHHH, it's too cold. It's too cold. AHHHH.
Good thing I had the bike pump and didn't blow the whole thing up by mouth.
