Rise and Shine -- Red Lights

Good Morning and shouldn't Wawa breakfast sandwiches be 2 for $3 all the time?

I have a theory. Much like my other theories, this one probably isn't held by anybody else.
My theory is the gas companies are in cahoots with the company that makes red light timers.
This morning, for example, I was driving into work about 5 a.m. and hit a red light at every possible chance. I never saw green until I came to a complete stop. Then, I had to burn some more gas to get to the next light.
The thing that kills me is there were virtually no other cars on the road that early. There certainly weren't any coming off the side street off Burmont Road. I sat at one light for what seemed like an hour (OK, it was like three minutes, but still) before it turned. Meanwhile, not one car was driving the other way.
So, when I have to put more gas in my car this afternoon, I'll be cursing the lights as well as Sunoco.

Rise and Shine --- It's the heat, baby

Good Morning and welcome back the soup!

I don't know about you, but when the lightning started last night I shuddered a little bit. Now, they are calling for thunderstorms this afternoon.
I used to like summer thunderstorms. It gave a little break from the heat and the lighting and thunder was something to behold.
Now, though, we don't have normal storms. We have hail the size of softballs and trees uprooted. We have power out for days and families wondering what's going to happen.
With no power on Friday (and a car that wasn't exactly working correctly), the children and I took a walk around town.
Seeing crushed by trees and cars flattened was amazing. What's more amazing were the people. Yes, they were going to be faced with insurance company nightmares over the next few months, but those we saw out Friday were taking it in stride.
OK, that big tree we used to sit under and have picnics is now in our living room. Oh well, time to clean up.
For some, it might be a time to break down. Curse the skies.
Those we saw, though, were happy it wasn't worse. Happy nobody got hurt.
After all, that's what matter's most.

Rise and Shine --- Phillies alive, Saturn dead

Good Morning and welcome to a cool, crisp Thursday!

It really doesn't get old seeing the Phillies celebrate on the field. After all those years of having to watch the likes of Wally Ritchie, Gregg Jefferies and Von Hayes trot out there, seeing the Phillies win another division title is pretty nice. That's third straight and another trip to the playoffs.
Hey, even if they don't win the World Series again this year, the last few years have been pretty sweet.
Not so sweet, though, is GM's decision to kill their Saturn brand. Now, I don't know much about business (you can just ask my wife as I pay the bills), but from this point of view that decision doesn't make much sense.
I've owned enough cars over the years to know which ones are worth the money and which ones, frankly, aren't. While our Saturn wasn't the sleakest looking car on the road, there was never any trouble.
It ran until well over 100,000 miles. Then a window broke and it didn't seem worth it to replace a window on a car with over 100,000 miles.
Still, I've never heard one person with a bad word about their Saturn. What probably happened is they made the cars too good for their own good. If you don't have to keep going back to the dealer for repairs, where is the money being made.
So, once again, consumers are forced to take the brunt of the problem.
Need a quality car? Forget it. Buy our other models so you can keep coming back for repairs.
It's the American way.
Back to the good news, though. Remember this as the baseball playoffs start:
