Rise and Shine --- Oil like boils

Good Morning and welcome to a brand-new, spanking week!

One thing I do every year is have a debate in my head when it is time to turn on the heat in the house. See, I have oil heat, so it's not as simple as getting the temperature up.
I have to check out the price of oil. Check the weather reports to see how long I have before it actually gets "cold." Check the price again. Check the gauge on the tank. Check the price one more time.
Usually, I try to make it as close to Thanksgiving as possible.
When a 5-year old girl, though, wants to put on her heavy coat while eating lunch, I guess it's time to break down and turn the temperature up.
That doesn't mean I don't continue to check the price and the level on a daily basis.
Now, I'm waiting for a nice week of 70 degree days. Guess that won't come until May.

Rise and Shine --- Blame game

Good Morning and welcome to the cool before the heat!

So, the President came out Tuesday night and said BP will have to pay big bucks during and after the gulf oil spill.
Well, whoopdedoo (for lack of a better word). So, BP will write a check and all will be forgotten. Meanwhile, the oil companies will continue to polute our oceans and food then go on and roll in the profits.
Now is the time for somebody (be it government or us) to step up and say, "Enough."
Find a new way now or we are all going to start riding our bikes or taking the train. The more we let these oil companies do what they want, the more of these 'oops' things are going to happen.
Somebody might say, 'Yeah, but BP will never be the same.'
OK, maybe, but what about Exxon. Remember when the Valdez crashed off the coast of Alaska and dumped oil all over the place? Many said they would never by Exxon gas again.
Well, 20 years later it's the biggest oil company in the world.
So, we can't forget and we have to make these companies accountable in ways more than money.
Then again, maybe that's all there is.

Rise and Shine --- Drill, baby, drill

Good Morning and welcome back to the heat!

So, if anybody still thinks it's a great idea to be drilling for oil in the ocean, they are seriously misguided.
All you have to do is see one photo or read one story about the mess down in the Gulf and you have to know the time for drilling has passed.
It's like we keep getting these signs that something is not right. Sure, it was an accident that's spilling all of BP's 'Black Gold' into the water (and onto our beaches), but it's also about karma.
Oil companies, and car makers and the government, have for too long simply relied on our need for oil. The only way this stuff stops is if we actually get down to finding alternative fuel sources and stop the drilling.
How much damage has to be done? How many people have to die?
Stop the drilling now and get to work on something else.

Rise and Shine ---- Another headache

Good Morning and welcome back!

So, the news out there today is the increase in gas prices. Let's count down the reasons:
1. We are two weeks before Memorial Day;
2. We have started driving more after prices went down;
3. The oil companies never make enough profits.
Yep, that about counts down the reasons. It all comes down to greed on the part of the oil companies. The more we drive, the more times they can hop on the private airplanes.
Here's an idea: Let's stop driving. Let's pretend gas is back near the $4 mark. Let the oil companies know how you feel by not buying. Yeah, it might be an emotional jump, but so what.
When the price of gas can go up a dime overnight, there's something going on and it isn't good.
