Birthday parties

Good Morning and welcome to another day on the 'Net!

So, I found out last week that having a birthday party in your house is kind of embarrassing.
See, I always thought it was a good deal because you had all your games, toys, whatever and could show them off for your friends.
Sure, I've seen the move away from house parties over the years, but I thought I could hold on to that tradition.
Guess not.
Now, anything less than laser tag or jumping off walls is passe.
Apparently, not even bowling is a good idea.
"Nobody likes bowling," I was told.
Unless, of course, they go bowling. Then you can't pull them off the lanes.
Maybe there's some place we can have laser tag bowling.

Rise and Shine --- Drinking tea?

OK, you can color me confused.
There is some kind of movement out there that likes to call itself the Tea Party. It's backed by such top-notch thinkers as Sarah Palin.
Well, these Tea Party candidates run as Republicans, but also say the GOP is not conservative enough for their tastes. Which, I guess, is a little like saying mint chocolate-chip ice cream doesn't have enough mint or chocolate chips. Hey, it is what it is, deal with it.
(Speaking of ice cream, spent a nice evening at What's the Scoop here in Primos Tuesday night. Didn't see any tea flavored ice cream.)
So, a career candidate Christine O'Donnell won the GOP nomination for Delaware's Senate seat during Tuesday's primary. The main part of the Republican party had backed her opponent, but, like O'Donnell said "the people of Delaware have spoken!"
Now, these outsiders apparently want to be part of the machine. They are upset because the GOP won't throw tons of money behind the candidates.
They want to argue against those in power, but also want to be backed by those in power.
Sorry, can't have it both ways.
Either you are a third party candidate (ask Lyndon LaRouche how that works out) or you are not.
In the end, it all looks like the same side of the coin.
By the way, the cherry vanilla is a good bet for dessert.

Rise and Shine

Good Morning everybody (especially those waiting in line to audition to be the next American Idol)!

Just in time for high school juniors to seriously think about their next step, the Princeton Review came out with its annual list of college rankings.
CHECK IT out here.
While the Review ranks colleges in everything from academics to the social scene.
Of course, the list that really gets the pub is the top party schools in the country.
All the usual suspects are there (Florida, Penn State, West Virginia, etc.)
Now, I don't remember these lists all those years ago. It was probably out there, but the Internet wasn't around, so the news didn't come as quickly.
Anyway, is there really a difference in the partying from say Florida, which is ranked No. 1, and Swarthmore? OK, there is probably a difference there, but in the grand scheme there really isn't much difference between Florida and Pittsburgh. Having visited one and attended the other, I have some first-hand experience.
If you are looking for a party at any college, chances are you'll be able to find one without much trouble.
Meanwhile, MIT is ranked No. 1 for students who study the most.
So that gives you a range. The bottom line is students have to find the school they like best. Outside rankings don't mean much when the school year starts.
