Good Morning and welcome to the middle of the week!
The story over the weekend about a person in Haverford calling the police on some children selling lemonade was at first funny, then downright sad.
The neighbor can couch it any way he wants (he says the worry was the children weren't being supervised by an adult), but to call the police on lemonade sellers is downright cruel.
Have we come to the point where we have to take everything away and can't just let children be children. We no longer can allow them to ride their bikes around the block for fear of crazy people. We can't let them play outside. Now, some don't want them selling lemonade.
Give it a break.
Attempting to sell lemonade (or painted seashells or rocks or whatever) for a few pennies is not going to bring the downfall to society.
Calling the police will.
So, to bother the neighbors, here's an idea:

A lemonade stand on a sidewalk is one thing, but kids going door to door to sell lemonade can be a real safety issue. Talking to the kids' parents would have been better, but if the neighbor didn't know who they were, then contacting the police is the next best thing. The neighbor wanted the kids to be safe.
If the neighbor didn't know who the parents were, that's another indictment on the state of society where neighbors don't know neighbors but are willing to call the police for a lemonade stand.
Boy oh Boy are Kids sheltered these days, when I was a kid me and my friends would let our parents know we were going out in the morning and we would be back later in the day. We went exploring, bike rididng, to the baseball field for a game whatever. This sheltering thing is getting out of control, it goes right along with the theory these crazy new parents have of everyone is a winner...false, sometimes your kid is not a winner and sometimes they don't deserve a trohpy. Theory's like this hack away at the pride of the kid who actually did deserve to be praised for his ability. HELICOPTER PARENTS...LET GO OF YOUR KIDS HAND!!!!
When are kids going to be allowed to be kids, they can't do anything without the police being called, if someone is getting murdered, and 100 people are witnesses, try to find one person to step forward, and say I saw it, instead, house lights go out, people who were outside, run into their houses, but for kids having fun, you can bet a lot of people step forward, oh yes, I saw so, and so making noise, or playing basketball at night, and the ball bouncing was making noise, and disturbing me etc. Drug dealers can sell drugs on your front lawn, or porch, or in front of the corner store, but kids selling lemonade, we have to hurry, and call police.
