Curious Case of the Disappearing Cookies

Good Morning and welcome to the rain!

Most times, I like to make my own cookies at home. With the holidays over, though, and the winter doldrums setting in, there was just no energy to make cookies.
So, when shopping last week, I picked up a box (is it a box or a thingy) of Oreos. The were on sale and Oreos make a nice treat once in a while.
When I got home Sunday night, I saw the pack and opened them up. I ate one cookie. Yes, one cookie. It sounds odd, but that's all I wanted at the time. Other times, I might go for a whole row, but this night one did the trick.
I then put the rest on the top shelf and, figuring it was homework time, nobody would be looking for cookies.
Anyway, I usually leave the boys in the house doing their homework while I walk up the block to welcome the youngest one off the bus.
I was gone, maybe 10 minutes.
Later last night, I decided to have another Oreo (OK, this time it was going to be more like 3, but who's counting).
I pulled down the box and it felt kind of light. I figured that was from all the weight-lifting I've been doing.
There was one cookie left in the box.
Is it possible for a teen and pre-teen to eat nearly a whole box of Oreos in 10 minutes?
Do I have a cookie-eating ghost in the house?
Guess it's time to head to the spy shop.

Rise and Shine --- Stealing sand?

Good Morning and welcome to the last day in July?!?

I don't know about you, but I had no problem getting up this morning.
So, found this story this morning. Apparently, Mexico doesn't have enough problems (drug runners, etc.) it needs to have environmental police.
Imagine if Upper Darby's Mike Chitwood was running the operation: 'These sand scumbags can't get away with this. Scumbags shouldn't be allowed to steal sand.'
Or pound sand or whatever.
Meanwhile, there are more important things going on in this country.
I mean, after all, we have health care that will never be fixed because those in power have their pockets lined by drug and HMO companies. We have too many people losing too many jobs. We have too many children wondering where their next meal will come.
But, hey, let's spend a ridiculous amount of time on a guy climbing through the window of his house. Even the neighbor who made the 911 call was on TV yesterday. Maybe she can have a tea party with Michelle Obama.
How about we solve the budget crisis this way:

Rise and Shine --- What's needed?

Good Morning and welcome to another Thursday!

So, the prevailing wind is it doesn't matter if local newspapers go away. They'll be plenty of 'journalists' to get the news out there, right? Somebody will give us the news from schools, townships, police, small business, etc. Well, check out the following:
This one from the Washington Post about how the police in the city of Baltimore are handling things now that the local newspaper has cut staff.
A couple of weeks ago, Gil Spencer of the Daily Times wrote about Upper Darby's Matt Steven, a blind basketball player. It's a heart-wrencher, worth reading again, especially with all the bad news out there.
This moring, on ESPN.com, Rick Reilly, late of Sports Illustrated, wrote the same story as if new. Now, maybe Reilly doesn't read delcotimes.com for his story ideas, maybe he does. It's just kind of interesting how things flow.
So, maybe the local newspaper takes a different look or different feel, but nobody else is reporting about Penn Wood's big basketball victory today.
