Rise and Shine --- Welcome Spring!

Good Morning and good-bye to Old Man Winter!

Sure, we might have not been hit much this winter, but it's still winter. It's still dark and dreary. It's still cold and dank.
Now, we can get ready for some sunshine. We can plant the garden. We can smell the flowers.

Rise and Shine --- You never know

Good Morning and isn't it nice to not pull out the winter coat?!?

Just imagine the amount of tragedy that could be avoided if stiffer gun laws could be pushed through.
Just imagine the amount of heartache that could go away if we just took all guns off the streets.
Just imagine how much more the sun would shine if people thought before they pulled the trigger.
Just imagine how it would be to walk around without having the fear (whether it be in the front or back of your mind) that somebody may pull a gun.
Just imagine what it would be like if there was a way to show somebody what happens after the trigger is pulled before the trigger is pulled.
Just imagine how more aggressive law enforcement could be if they weren't afraid somebody was going to pull a gun.

Never mind, it might be too much to ask.

Rise and Shine -- Yes, it's sunny!

Good Morning and welcome to the middle of the week!

Ever since the first cold air blew into the area, I've gotten the same question over and over, 'Is it going to be sunny out?'
The question, from a precocious 5-year old, was meant to ask if it's warm out.
So, yes, I would say, it's sunny out today, but it's still cold.
'Awwww!' was always the response.
Sunday, it was with great pride I could finally say it was 'sunny out.'
It's really amazing how the mind works. Yes, it looks nice outside during the doldrums of winter, but it's not exactly inviting.
Bundle up, walk outside and the first thing you want to do is run back inside.
The last few days have been a welcome respite. Sure, there was still some melting snow around, but the hope of a warm day can make a lot of things look better. Well, at least for a little bit.
Hey, there were even a few flowers blossoming from the mud.
So, while the rain and chilly air is blowing back in for the next few days, we can finally look forward to sunny days. We all need a little bit of sunshine.

Rise and Shine --- Digging out

Good Morning and welcome to summer in November!

That's right, it's supposed to be 70 degrees out there today. Enjoy it now, because that Pennsylvania winter will no doubt hit us over the head soon.
Speaking of winter and knocking you over the head, the announcement by Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter of major budget cuts seems a little odd. Sure, bit cities like Philadelphia are feeling the economic crunch. All those companies laying off all those workers means less tax money coming in to the cities. There's no doubt they have to control spending, but the plowing of roads after snowstorms is the wrong path.
Now, here in Pennsylvania, we have about the worst road clearing in the country. Just try, without a snowmobile of course, to drive down Baltimore Pike after a snowstorm. You'd be better off walking.
Not plowing the roads just brings everything to a stop. People can't get to work, school, the stores (for milk and bread of course) or anywhere. Of course, it's great for television and their over-obsession with weather, but the rest of us have to get around.
So, unless Nutter has a connection to Mother Nature and knows the Heat Miser will be controlling the winter in the Northeast this year (in a trade for just one snow day in the South), the Mayor is going to have bigger problems.
Then again, maybe it won't matter. We are in a world of perpetual sunshine now.
