Good Morning and we are really lucking out this Fall!
Let's get real for a minute here, folks. Saw the results of a survey yesterday that said 52 percent of businesses can't find people to fill open positions.
Really? Unemployment sits at 9 percent and those responding to this poll say they can't find workers?
The poll also said 42 percent of businesses say those applying for jobs are under-qualified.
Really? I know people with college degrees (some with masters) who are unemployed. They would certainly be over-qualified for any job, but can't get a hit.
Why don't we just say what it is? These places don't really want to hire people or if they do they don't want to pay a fair wage.
It's in the best interest of some places to keep unemployment high right now to try and force a change in the White House. If there is a fundamental change in government, maybe those tax perks and what-nots will continue to stay around.
So, when you hear polls about jobs and how there aren't people to fill them, well, let's really look around at reality.

Rise and Shine --- Meet the new boss...
Good Morning and welcome back to the sun!
So, we are back where we started in this whole federal budget mess. As usual, it comes down to special interests, something we here on the ground have no say.
The President wants to raise taxes on the rich. His opposition says that will kill jobs.
The killing jobs thing seems from here a silly position.
First of all, those who run those big companies have been killing jobs for years. Just ask anybody who is out of work. You can apply for jobs. You can go on interviews, but unless you are willing to take a minimum salary, you aren't getting the job.
It doesn't really matter if you raise taxes, lower taxes or even eliminate taxes. It all comes down to greed.
Here's an example to mull over. Craig Dubow is the CEO of Gannett, the publisher of USA Today, the Wilmington News Journal and other papers around the country.
Last year, Gannett laid off hundreds of workers and told those still around they had to take two weeks unpaid furlough during the year. There are rumors of more layoffs this year and the furloughs were heaped upon workers again.
For this, Dubow doubled his salary in 2010 and took home $9.4 million, including a $1.75 million bonus.
Those that have it want to get more, it doesn't matter if they are taxed or not.

Rise and Shine --- Jobs
Good Morning and welcome to Friday!
The big talk yesterday was about jobs. The government is trying to find a way to spur job growth. People out on the street need jobs.
If we can't work, how will the economy ever get better?
The problem is, at least the view from this corner of the world, is companies have found out they can survive with less workers.
Those who have jobs are happy to have them and take on increased workload to keep the job. Companies make money by cutting salaries, health care, people.
Now, an expert I know says job growth is always the final thing to come back after a recession. Hopefully, that can happen quicker.
People need to work. Companies need to see they are a part of the community and need to let people work.
For the most part, workers want to get the job done. They want to do the best they possibly can to not only survive with a paycheck but get a sense of accomplishment.
All the talk is great, but until there is some kind of forceful push for hiring, the circle will continue.
It needs to happen now.

Rise and Shine --- Shortsighted
Good Morning and welcome back!
Now, I don't own a business. I don't have to worry about paying workers. I don't have to find a way to make the bottom line work.
All that is true, so you may argue I don't know anything about business. I do know this, though, if companies keep laying off workers, none of us will survive. You want the country to get out of this economic malaise, then stop putting people out of work.
Just yesterday, nearly 70,000 people lost their jobs. That's just totally ridiculous and, really, shortsighted. You know once the economy does turn around (it always does) these same companies will start making money, but won't be bringing those workers back.
It's just like food prices. When gas was out of hand, food prices shot up because it 'was the cost of doing business. It takes a lot of fuel to get the food to the stores and that's being passed to the consumer."
Well, gas prices fell, but food prices stayed high.
We are not stupid. We can see when we're getting the back-hand.
